Recent Historical  TV & film productions have been filmed in Scotland. Notably the 1st of a trilogy about the life & times of Robert The Bruce, Outlaw King; the critically acclaimed Mary Queen of Scots; and American TV drama, Outlander.

Outlander is the much acclaimed British – American TV drama based on the International best selling novels by Diana Gabaldon. Selling over 25 million copies worldwide the books already had a very loyal fan base. With the much acclaimed, recently broadcast 1st series more fans are being inspired to visit Scotland.

With its rugged landscape and stunning scenery Scotland was the natural location and plays a starring role in the TV adaptation of the novels. The Outlander series tells the story of 20th century married combat nurse Claire Randall who,in 1945 Scotland, mysteriously travels back in time to 18th century Scotland and finds adventure and romance with Jamie Fraser, a young Jacobean warrior.

So there you have it. A epic fantasy drama with a mixture of historical fiction, romance, drama and science fiction. Something for everyone. Although many of the locations in the books are in the Highlands of Scotland the TV producers found more than suitable alternative places to shoot in the Central Belt, which is within easy reach of both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
